Cascade Poetry
Cascade poetry is a form of poetry that involves creating a series of stanzas (either 3 lines – a tercet, or 4 lines – a quatrain) where each line of the first stanza is repeated as the final lines of each stanza afterward. This repetition creates a cascading effect, hence the name “cascade poetry.”
Each stanza may follow a specific rhyme scheme or pattern, and the repeated lines serve to link the stanzas thematically or rhythmically. The form allows for a gradual development or evolution of ideas or images throughout the poem. It can be a challenging form to master but can lead to beautiful and intricate compositions.
Today’s Challenge
Write a cascade poem inspired by the changing seasons. Begin with the tranquility of winter’s embrace, let it flow into the awakening of spring, then the warmth of summer’s sun, and finally, the serene beauty of autumn’s colors. Each stanza should echo the sentiments of the previous one, creating a seamless transition between seasons.
