Epistolary Poetry
Epistolary poetry is a form of poetry that takes the form of a letter or series of letters, either addressed to a specific person or entity or written as if the poet is speaking directly to the reader. As poems of direct address, they can be intimate and colloquial or formal and measured. They can take any form, from free verse to heroic couplets.
In epistolary poetry, the poet often expresses personal feelings, thoughts, observations, or experiences as if they are communicating them directly to someone else. The subject matter can range from philosophical investigation to a declaration of love to a list of errands.
Epistolary poetry has a long history and has been used by poets across different cultures and time periods.
